    The birth of Apples Rickshaw

Celebrity Nepotism, the ‘In Crowd’, the C-List and the multitude of talentless, two-faced morons who grace the middle pages of the London Lite and Heat Magazine. Why do I list such a loathsome collective group of subject matter? Well for one thing I find the whole lot of them an embarassment to both my industry and the Great British nation. Secondly I thank them for helping to give birth to my new comedy character Apples Rickshaw.

Every comedy actor, writer and stand up who has secured adoration and reverance for their talent has had their own unique ‘voice’ or one particular vehicle for which they have received their initial recognitionm allowing them to flourish. Whether it was Staines dwelling rude boy Ali G, or celebrity stalking Avid Merrion, the dry sarcasm of Jack Dee or sexual lasciviousness of Russell Brand, each of these motifs have allowed true ability to be recognised and in turn opened doorways to a successful and fruitful career.

Now whilst I duly put in my hours doing live stand up, impro comedy and sketch shows, writing sit-com treatments and developing radio pilots for BBC 6Music, I have also assessed exactly what it is that irritates me most about the world I exist in and how to use comedy to positively try to draw attention to a much needed change through the physical form of one particular character. We live in a world where child-abuse, rape and murder are common place, governments drain the population of tax money to fund the development and hoarding of nuclear arms to prepare for a money-driven inevitable war, even though taking those trillions of dollars and pounds and euros and pumping them into world poverty, medical research and education would not only end the suffering and misery of so many but also spread a unified sense of community that might, just might, spell a period of world peace. Whilst all of these injustices hang over us as a global and divided community like a shroud of negativity what do we pre-occupy ourselves with? The latest drunken embarassment of Peaches Geldof or the liger-like qualities of teen tv presenters, the dating faux pas of Paris Hilton and the lycra-monstrosities that Lady GaGa refers to as ‘fashion’. We allow ourselves to give air time to a never-ending cycle of talentless celebrities who feed our media storm with their amusing attempts at detracting attention away from their inability to do anything worthwhile for a suitable period of time to make some wonga, before becomming old news and being replaced with the new scene of ingrates and nepotism-representing planks.

Truly talented people are far too busy to fall out of clubs drunk every night of the week because they are in fact off being talented. It annoys me that instead of praising and admiring these driven, able and talented individuals we revel in the follies of the lazy, unable and talentless celebrity clowns that fuel the tabloids. I hope that as my celebrity status grows and my notoriety becomes wider spread, it is for my ability as an actor, comedian, presenter and dj that I am given air time, not for the latest twitter argument or hotel orgy. Although I will hazard a guess that the hotel orgies shall be frequent and most delectable.

And so Apples Rickshaw was born. Love-child of Timmy Mallet and Catherine Zeta-Jones… presenter, dj, fashionista, socialite and hand-model… voted 7th in Vice Magazine’s ‘Coolest Peoples to watch out for in 2012’ list…. and all round moron of the celebrity masses. Apples represents everything I am amused and ashamed of and he draws on every experience of celebrity life I have witnessed so far that has made me roll my eyes with contempt. He is currently hosting the Rest Is Noise, Brixton pub quiz once a month, he will be doing a weekly pub quiz at 93 Feet East, Brick Lane from November and will be doing a weekly show for Styleslut too. Apples will make weekly video blogs for your enjoyment and keep his facebook and twitter pages regularly updated too!

Be his friend and laugh at him AND with him, as is only fitting for ‘one of them’...
